PRIVACY NOTICE

Privacy, in plain language.

Who is responsible

Frequency Master is an independent project operated by John in the United Kingdom. John is the controller for personal information submitted through this site. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to hello@thefrequencymaster.com or through the contact form.

What we collect

For a free account, we collect a unique nickname, email address and password. Surname and phone are optional. We store a protected password hash, never the readable password. We also store whether you confirmed your email, account and session dates, and limited security information such as IP address and browser details. We do not ask for a postal address for a free account. If you choose to receive product updates, we store that choice, when you made or changed it, and the version of the invitation shown to you.

When you send feedback, we store your category, message, submission time, review status and a randomly generated submission ID. Name and email are optional for feedback. The form requires your agreement before your message is stored.

For a bug report, you can choose to attach the generator settings shown in the form, such as frequency, waveform, first and second modulation rates and depths, and volume. These settings are appended to your message only when you leave that option selected. The studio temporarily keeps its current generator settings in this browser tab’s session storage so the feedback form can offer this context. These settings are not automatically saved to your account.

The Find the tone game stores the current round and up to 100 completed results in this browser’s local storage so play can resume after a reload. The saved game data includes reference and guessed frequencies, score, pitch distance, rating and completion time. It is not sent to an account or cloud service, and you can erase it with “Clear local data”. No audio or microphone data is stored.

Hosting infrastructure may also process security information such as IP address, browser information and request time. Please do not submit medical records, financial information or other sensitive personal data in feedback.

Why we use it

We use account information to create and maintain the free account you request, confirm your email, let you sign in, reset your password and unlock member features. Confirmation and password-reset messages are account emails, not marketing. If you separately choose product updates, we may email you about new Frequency Master features on the basis of that consent. Leaving the box unchecked does not affect your account. We use session and security information to keep accounts working and protect the site. We use feedback to review corrections, answer messages when an email is supplied, improve the studio, plan articles and investigate abuse. Feedback form content is processed with your consent. Account processing is needed to provide the requested service; basic security processing supports our legitimate interest in protecting the site and its users.

Where it is stored and who receives it

Accounts and feedback are stored in a private MySQL database on the Frequency Master hosting account. They are available only to the project operator and service providers needed to host, secure and operate the site. eUKhost hosts the website, database and mail service, and processes your email address to deliver confirmation and password-reset messages. Member details are not sold, used for advertising or published automatically.

Website and account processing takes place on eUKhost infrastructure in the United Kingdom. Optional analytics is handled separately by Google only after consent, as described below.

How long we keep it

Account details are kept while your account is active. If you request deletion, we remove the account and its active sessions, except information we must keep to meet a legal obligation or resolve a dispute. Verification and reset links expire after one hour; sessions expire unless renewed. Feedback and optional contact details are kept only as long as needed to review the submission, reply when requested, correct the service or meet a legal requirement. We review stored feedback manually at least once every 12 months and delete information that is no longer needed. The site does not use an automatic deletion schedule for feedback.

Your choices and rights

You can use the public studio without an account and submit feedback without a name or email. You can leave surname and phone blank when creating an account. Product updates are optional. You can change your choice in your account at any time; future update emails will also include a way to stop them. Where data-protection law applies, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection, and you may withdraw consent where processing relies on it. Email hello@thefrequencymaster.com or use the contact form and choose “Privacy request”. We may need enough information to locate and verify the account or submission.

People in the UK may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Cookies and optional analytics

A necessary session cookie keeps you signed in if you create an account. It is separate from analytics consent. Frequency Master uses Google Analytics 4 only after you select “Accept analytics” or actively tick the separate analytics box during registration. Until then, the Google tag is not loaded and no analytics request is sent. Rejecting analytics does not restrict the public studio, games, articles or feedback form. Creating the free feature account currently requires a separate analytics opt-in; the rest of the site remains available without an account. Your choice is saved in this browser’s local storage and can be changed at any time through “Analytics choices”. Withdrawing later stops analytics and does not remove an existing account.

When accepted, analytics records a cleaned Frequency Master page address without query parameters, the page title, a cleaned referrer, approximate location, general device and browser information, and three limited product events: the first successful studio sound in a browser session, completion of a Find the tone round, and successful storage of a feedback submission. Google derives approximate location from the connection’s IP address and states that raw IP addresses are discarded after use for Analytics services. The feedback event never includes the message, name, email, generator settings or other form content. Frequency Master does not send internal search terms, free-text URL parameters or user identifiers to Analytics.

Google Analytics may set first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_* to distinguish visitors and preserve session state. Google documents a default expiry of up to two years, subject to browser limits and the property’s cookie settings. If you withdraw consent, Frequency Master blocks further measurement, removes the Google tag from the page, clears accessible Analytics cookies and reloads the page in the rejected state.

Advertising storage, Google Signals and ad-personalisation features are disabled in the site code. Analytics information is processed by Google as a service provider and may be handled outside the United Kingdom under Google’s applicable transfer safeguards. John uses the resulting aggregate reports only to understand use of Frequency Master, verify whether its tools work and decide what to improve. Frequency Master does not sell Analytics data.
